The MB 04 is similar to the MB 02 in that it will rotate on the tongue and apply tongue pressure, however, it has a small (¼") port that introduces some tongue relief to the horse. The port allows the horse to swallow and move his tongue when he is moving forward and relaxed, which acts as a release or reward. The 6" stainless steel 3-ring combination bit is a hybrid of a ring bit, shank bit, and hackamore and uses five different pressure points to disperse rein pressure. Because the noseband and chin strap are connected through the purchase, when the reins are engaged, the horse first feels nose, chin and poll pressure before he feels the mouthpiece. The mouthpiece can slide 1" before reaching a stop, where it will then engage and apply pressure. The purpose is to give the horse an opportunity to respond to the rider’s rein signals before applying mouthpiece pressure. The combination bit has Independent Swivel Cheek and the purchase is slightly angled away from the cheek to prevent rubbing. The noseband is flat leather with knotted cord on either side and the chin strap is synthetic to avoid stretching over time.

The 47PB is a correctional mouthpiece, a ported mouthpiece that collapses on to the outer lip and bars, and rotates on to the tongue. The port is narrower than a Level 3 mouthpiece, but offers plenty of room for the horse’s tongue to pass under the bit. The angles of the port are rounded, so when the bit collapses and applies two points of pressure on the tongue, the pressure is mild. The port on this mouthpiece is 1 ⅞" high, so it will apply some palate pressure. Sweet Iron mouthpiece oxidizes and encourages salivation.

The MB 03T is a Myler twist version of the traditional French link or lozenge mouthpiece commonly used in snaffle bits with an added copper roller. The MB 03T rotates onto the tongue, applying tongue pressure, but because the mouthpiece is curved, it wraps around the bars and lips instead of pinching. The barrel in the center applies approximately the same pressure on the tongue as a traditional three-piece mouthpiece, however, the barrel distributes the pressure more kindly and creates Independent Side Movement™. The MB 03T twist has no pronounced sharp edges, and the twist is a mirror on each side of the center barrel to provide a balanced feel for horse and rider. Notes: This mouthpiece is a step up in tongue relief from Level 2, but because the port is low, it does not offer as much tongue relief as other Level 2-3 mouthpieces with slightly higher ports because the tongue is still somewhat restricted. The MB 36 mouthpiece will offer more tongue relief than the MB 06 when the reins are relaxed, but more tongue pressure when the reins are engaged. For more overall tongue relief, see MB 43LP.
The addition of the hooks to the cheek make this a more versatile version of the eggbutt without hooks. Attaching the headstall to the top hook holds the bit in the correct position instead of allowing it to slide around the bridle cheeks. Attaching the reins to the rein hooks allows the rider to lift the cheek and use the Independent Side Movement™ of the mouthpiece (if available). Using the hooks does not add leverage but allows the rider to transition from a direct rein action to indirect action without changing the bit. Adding a curb strap (using a Myler curb strap kit) incorporates curb pressure. Curb pressure is recommended for ported mouthpieces.
The small loop behind the top slot accommodates a curb strap (attach with two curb hooks). Both the top bridle slot and bottom rein slot will fit standard ⅝" bridle leather.

The MB 98 does not rotate on to the tongue, but instead sits solidly across the bars and lips of the horse’s mouth. The port is narrower than most Level 3 mouthpieces, but still offers ample room for the horse’s tongue to pass under the bit easily. Because the port is narrow, when the reins are engaged, the horse might feel a slight pressure on the outside edges of the tongue — a gentle reminder rather than a strong reprimand. The port on this mouthpiece is only 1 ⅝" high, so it will apply little to no palate pressure. Because the MB 98 does not have Independent Side Movement™, it has a more solid feel.

The port itself is 1 ½" high, offering room for the horse’s tongue to pass under the bit. The flat plate above the port is 1 ¼" high and ¾" wide and tilts back rather than sitting straight up. Notes: The MB 29 is not designed for use by the casual rider. Its use requires a very experienced rider with excellent hand control and a horse that is very finished in his training who knows how to ride off seat and leg, as well as being very light on the rein aids. When palate pressure is applied properly, it causes the horse to drop his head but because the palate is so sensitive, that type of pressure needs to be used with great restraint.
